Basalt

Basalt is a volcanic rock. As the molten rock solidified on the surface, the underlying mass is finely grained. Smaller and larger inclusions are often found. Basalt is very hard and compact and therefore weathers only slowly. Most varieties are dark grey to black in colour. It is popular for both outdoor use in road construction and indoor use as floor slabs, tiles and worktops.
